Manuscript Formatting
Typically, you would format your drafts into manuscript format in order to submit it to an agent, from the agent to the publisher. Your editor is going to suggest getting it into manuscript format anyway. How? Check out this handy article on manuscript formatting.
TLDR, didn’t wanna read the article
- One inch margins
- Double space
- Sans Serif scripts only (or they make you change it back)
- Title page
- Page breaks between chapters
- Center aligned titles and chapters
- Don’t forget to indent
- Add Page Numbers (bottom right hand corner)

I can say, this is how my editor had me set up my title page, so it’s not just a Reedsy floof thing.
Don’t Be Lazy with This–it Literally Costs Money
Just trying to save you a few bucks. Editors charge for having to make all changes to your document. Go in with it proof read, alpha read, and formatted.
From Manuscript to Type-Setting
Okay, its edited, you are all happy. Time to put it into IngramSpark, KDP, Draft2Digital and so on.
In my opinion, the easiest option was to use Microsoft Word. It allowed me to add chapter header art.
